Woman in Norwalk police chase won't face charges
(04/22/08) NORWALK ? Investigators say the woman who was behind the wheel of a stolen truck during a police chase was not a willing participant in the crime.
According to police, 18-year-old Kristin Cates was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend in Maine and forced to take part in the chase. Investigators say the ex-boyfriend, 19-year-old Eric Niles, killed a man who was with Cates in Maine just before the abduction. Cates had a restraining order against Niles.
Police started chasing the stolen truck Sunday night. As officers closed in, Niles shot himself in the head near exit 13 in Norwalk. He died early Monday morning.
Cates will not face charges.
