Man dies after falling in Stamford Harbor
The U.S. Coast Guard and crews from Stamford's police and fire departments recovered the body of a man who died after falling into the water at Stamford Harbor early Friday morning.
Officials say a woman called police shortly after midnight and said her male companion, identified as 51-year-old Stein Hastrom, fell into the water as the pair walked toward Hastrom's boat. The Stamford Fire Department and Stamford Police Department each had boats in the water to search for the victim. They eventually called the Coast Guard for another boat.
It took three separate diving attempts to eventually find Hastrom's body around 1:45 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, but police do not suspect foul play.
Investigators believe alcohol could have played a role in the incident.
