First selectmen and mayors from across southwestern Connecticut met Thursday at a restaurant to address common issues in their communities.

The elected officials met at a Norwalk eatery, where trash hauling took center stage. The officials say their municipalities' contracts are set to expire in the fall. They want to join forces to negotiate better deals, which would result in savings for taxpayers.

The FAA's new plan, which would direct more air traffic over Connecticut skies, also topped the agenda. Several towns have joined a lawsuit against the FAA, saying their quality of life would be negatively affected.Norwalk Mayor Dick Moccia says the luncheon, which was not paid for with taxpayers' dollars, is also a good way for officials to find out what policies have worked for other towns.
