Temporary firehouse fix used after deadly fire
Firefighters began working out of a trailer behind the Ocean Terrace firehouse in Bridgeport Wednesday after a deadly house fire that took place last month. In December, a 1-year-old boy and his parents died in a house fire. It took firefighters about seven minutes to respond. The Ocean Terrace firehouse had been closed for repairs and crews had to come from another station about a mile away.
The floor at the firehouse collapsed in early December, just days before the deadly fire. Original estimates said the work would only take a week, but the project proved to be much more complicated. The decision was made to find a way to bring the crew back.
Fire Chief Brian Rooney says with the operational trailer, response time for the company should be back to four minutes. The trailer will be home to the crew at Engine 7 for about two months during repairs.
