Fire strikes company aiding disabled people again
A company that provides transportation to the handicapped and ill has apparently been hit by arsonists for the second time in 18 months.
Police and fire officials responded to reports of burning cars at American Chair Car Services headquarters in Trumbull early Saturday morning. Several medical vans had been torched, and officials believe an arsonist is to blame.
Company spokesperson Dominick Cammarota says American Chair Car Services is upset because it can't deliver necessary services to people in need.
"Someone's autistic child is not going to be able to get from point "A" to point "B" because ? some idiot came over here and vandalized these vans," said Cammarota.
The incident resembles a previous hit to the company in March of 2006. The previous strike destroyed 12 company vans with damages worth about $560,000, according to Cammarota.
Investigators and company officials are urging anyone with information about either fire to come forward.
