Death date set for newest death row member
(AP) - As required by law, a Superior Court judge has set a specific date for the execution of the newest resident of Connecticut's death order.
Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin Tuesday ordered Russell Peeler Jr. to be executed by lethal injection March 10 of 2008.
However, lengthy appeals will likely postpone that indefinitely.
Peeler is a former drug kingpin convicted of ordering the murders of 8-year-old Leroy "B.J." Brown Jr. and the boy's mother, Karen Clarke, in 1999.
A jury of six men and six women decided in October that Peeler should die for his crime.
Judge Devlin formally imposed the death penalty earlier this month, making Peeler the ninth person on Connecticut's death row.
