The polls are open and people across southwestern Connecticut are casting their ballots.
One hundred and thirty one cities and towns are holding elections Tuesday. The state's biggest cities -- Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven -- have mayoral elections on the ballot.
Politicians raced against time through the final hours of the campaign Monday urging people to get out and vote for them.
Tuesday's election marks the first time Connecticut voters will use optical scan machines to cast their ballots. Poll workers say with the rain, voters need to make sure their hands are dry because if the paper ballot gets wet the machine won't take it.
