Teen allegedly tortured by dad heads back to school
The 13-year-old boy who was allegedly tortured by his dad in Fairfield returned to school Thursday, while his dad remains in jail.
Police say David Rodriguez tied up his son in a basement at his home and beat him with a two-by-four because he was too slow in completing homework assignments.
Police say the boy's half sister was upstairs at the time and could hear what was going on. They say Rodriguez left at one point and told his daughter not to go downstairs. She went down, freed her brother and called 911, they say.
The teen's mother says Rodriguez is a good father and what happened is an isolated incident.
Department of Children and Families officials are investigating. DCF says in these kinds of situations, it will allow a child to stay with a parent if the other parent is criminally charged.
