Car crashes into restaurant, killing elderly woman
A car ran off the road on West Main Street Monday evening, hitting one woman and then crashing into a Mexican restaurant.
The victim, 81, had been walking on the sidewalk when the out-of-control car hit her and threw her into the front of Casa Villa.
Employees of Casa Villa say the restaurant had no customers at the time of the crash. The only people inside were three workers and one child. A family of four had just left.
The owner of Casa Villa estimates that he has $150,000 in damages.
Police say the car was a Nissan Maxima, and they say the driver was alone. They have confirmed that the driver was a 35-year-old Stamford resident.
The driver was taken to the hospital while investigations continued. No charges have been issued yet.
