One dead, 2 injured in Westport highway rollover
A man is dead and a woman and toddler are in the hospital after firefighters say the driver lost control of the car and went airborne.
Authorities say the vehicle hit a stretch of guardrail on I-95 in Westport, sailed over the top, hit a tree and rolled over. The car then went down an embankment. They say the accident happened on the northbound side of the highway Saturday night.
?If a car?s going over a certain speed, the guardrail?s not gonna stop them from going airborne,? Lt. Joseph Coppola of the Norwalk Fire Department said.
State Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) says there have been many accidents on that stretch of highway and that they usually occur at night. Duff believes more state troopers are needed.
Duff says drivers think it?s safe to drive at any speed in that area because the highway is straight, but that is not the case.
Police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
