Firefighters discover burning body in Greenwich

? Investigators are working to find out more about a body Greenwich firefighters found burning near the Merritt Parkway Wednesday night.

The discovery was made in a wooded area off exit 29 of the Merritt Parkway at approximately 10:30. The man?s body was found near the northbound off ramp. Police spent much of Thursday at the scene trying to uncover clues as to what happened.

Area residents are stunned by the discovery. ?It?s quite extraordinary,? resident Rich Raymond said. ?It?s the first time I?ve heard of anything like this in eight years of living here.?

A preliminary autopsy was performed Thursday. Police have not released the man?s identity.
