State police are searching for a man who robbed a Fairfield gas station at knifepoint Friday morning.

The incident happened at the Mobil station near exit 46 on the Merritt Parkway. Police say the robber accessed the station through a road that runs behind the building. The suspect threatened a female clerk with a knife.

Police say the man took money from the register and several cartons of cigarettes. No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a black male between the age of 30 and 40 years old with bad teeth. Police say he was driving a late model SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, with Connecticut plates.

Anyone with information should call state police at (203) 696-2500.
