Bridgeport Kurds fear Iraq conflict
The Kurdish community in Bridgeport is responding to the mounting tension on the northern Iraq border.
Turkey has been building its military presence on the Iraqi border, claiming Kurdish rebels have been conducting raids across the border. There is growing concern that Turkish troops may enter Iraq. The United States has warned Turkey not to deploy troops in the troubled country.
Bridgeport?s West End has become home to a number of Kurdish immigrants. These residents fear that Turkish presence in Iraq could turn into a long-term war.
Honer Sofi has lived in the United States for nine years but the majority of his family still calls Iraq home. He says if Turkish troops cross the border, it?ll ?basically turn into another war.?
Kurdish leaders in Iraq are claiming Turkey shelled a suspected rebel base in northern Iraq but did not cross the border.
