Bridgeport market in danger of closing after 14 years
A market that has been a staple in the Blackrock section of Bridgeport for the past 14 years is in jeopardy of closing.
The Harborview Market, which is owned by Republican Party Chairman Rick Torres, may be forced to close due to zoning issues. The market is zoned as a grocery store, but also serves food. So city officials now say the market could be violating the law because of its indoor and outdoor seating.
Torres says he is at a loss as to why the city would come after the market now. The longtime Republican did recently endorse Democrat Chris Caruso for the upcoming mayoral election. As for whether the current issue is some sort of political retaliation, Torres says he hopes it is not.
