Thousands of people in southwestern Connecticut headed to the beach to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the unofficial start of the summer.
Beachgoers say it?s the first time in years that the weather has been warm enough to spend the holiday at the beach.
The holiday weekend also marks the beginning of the boating season.
Beach officials say they've been preparing for this weekend for months. They say all six of their beaches are fully staffed with lifeguards and parking attendants.
