Garden to be dozed for new building in Bridgeport
A Bridgeport garden was planted for the final time Wednesday before being dozed to make way for a new building. The Bridgeport YMCA and the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County bought the Seaside Community Garden property to build a daycare center. City, YMCA officials and the gardeners agree the neighborhood needs a low-cost daycare center. However, many residents say the garden has been there since the early 80s and wish the daycare could be built elsewhere. YMCA officials plan to break ground on the daycare center by the end of the year. Mayor Fabrizi (D-Bridgeport) hopes the city and the gardeners can find another area to move the garden that doesn't have the potential for development.
