Stratford man hit by train while crossing tracks

A Stratford man was killed by a Metro-North train when he was crossing the tracks Sunday night.

Tommy Hernandez, 35, was riding his bicycle across the tracks when a friend tried to warn him the train was coming. That friend said Hernandez did not hear the warning.

Residents say the area where Hernandez crossed is a common shortcut, but there are no signs there to stop people from crossing the tracks. Metro-North says people who cross the tracks there are trespassing.

Neighbors placed flowers at the site where Hernandez was killed.
