Skakel defense questions lead investigator
The lead investigator in the Martha Moxley murder case, Frank Garr, was on the stand Tuesday in Michael Skakel's quest for a new trial.Skakel was convicted in 2002 for Moxley?s 1975 beating death. He is serving 20 years to life in prison. The defense claims the lead investigator had a financial interest in Skakel?s conviction because of a financial deal to write a book about the case with a reporter. Garr says he did discuss the case with the reporter, but did not furnish any new information. According to Garr, he was minimally involved with the book and did not agree to help until after the 2002 conviction. Skakel's lawyers pressured Garr about his role in the book and why he received half of the book?s profits. The hearing could be finished tomorrow, but the judge will not issue a decision from the bench. Skakel will have to wait to hear if he will receive a new trial.
