Southwestern CT residents clean up after winter's final hurrah
After nearly six inches of snow and ice blanketed southwestern Connecticut, residents were cleaning up Saturday and hoping winter has had its final hurrah. The season?s latest snow, sleet and ice storm made for slick roads, icy sidewalks and snow-covered cars. Some residents said breaking through the sheet layer of ice on their cars was a job in itself. For those drivers who managed to dig themselves out, the roadways proved treacherous. Several accidents were reported throughout southwestern Connecticut Saturday, including a serious one, where an SUV went off I-95 in Fairfield and dropped 20 feet into the Mill River. Authorities say the driver of that car, Harold Ott, of Milford, did not suffer any serious injuries.
