Junk food and fast food are feeding America?s obesity epidemic, and one Bridgeport dietician feels the U.S. should learn from the French when it comes to food advertisements.

The French government now requires food ads in the country to contain warnings such as ?for your health, avoid snacking between meals? and ?for your health, eat at least five fruits and vegetables a day.? Advertisers who don?t run the warnings will be fined.

The ads in France appear on television, radio and the Internet. Bridgeport Hospital dietician Laurie Jordan says similar ads in the U.S. may give people something to chew on. Meanwhile, some consumer groups doubt the effectiveness of the ads.
