ER officials 'besieged' by black ice victims across southwestern CT
Emergency room workers across southwestern Connecticut were surprised by Wednesday?s surge of black ice victims.Bridgeport Hospital's new emergency room saw a rise in activity Wednesday after black ice threatened drivers and pedestrians. One hospital official described the ER as being ?besieged? by the amount of injuries. Five hospitals across southwestern Connecticut reported patients with sprains and fractures from falling on ice. Other patients had more serious injuries resulting from a half-dozen car accidents. Bridgeport road crews say they use three weather services to monitor conditions, but they were still caught off guard by Wednesday?s severe road conditions.
