Norwalk play celebrates African-American history
People from all different backgrounds celebrated African-American history by attending a special show in Stamford Saturday. The play, "A Stitch in Time" re-enacts life during the slave era through skits and song. For the past 14 years, a group of New Jersey siblings called "Seven Quilts for Seven Sisters" has taken its show on the road, showing and telling its audience how slaves slept, ate, dressed, struggled and played. The sisters say the show centers around quilting because many slaves took to the hobby. They explain how each color, fabric and symbol has a meaning, and how making the homemade quilt tells a story. The show is being performed at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and throughout the tri-state area.
