Rate hike sends West Haven customer over the edge, UI says
Many residents are complaining about United Illuminating (UI) rate hikes, but one customer may have taken his anger a step too far.
UI increased its rates by 24 percent and plans to raise them again in six months. UI officials say when many customers see their bills go up, they take it out on the company?s field workers. UI says a West Haven customer was arrested for allegedly threatening workers who had to turn off service.
The company says its field workers are trained to deal with outraged customers. UI officials add they have a no-tolerance policy when it comes to threats against workers. According to a UI spokesman, if warranted, the company will try to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
