Southwestern CT TOWED program keeps roads safe for the holidays

The roads will be safer this holiday season, thanks to more than 20 auto repair and tow yards throughout southwestern Connecticut participating in a drunk-driving prevention program. The program, Towing Operators Working to Eliminate Drunk Driving (TOWED) was created by Connecticut Motor Club. One phone call gets the car and its owner a free trip home. Last year, AC Auto Body in New Canaan had 19 pickups as a result of TOWED, with the busiest nights being Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. One employee says it was a good feeling when many people called back the following day to thank them for their service. The TOWED program is open to drivers who live in Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield counties. The program runs 24-hours a day from Saturday through New Year's Day.
