Police preach vigilance to avoid victimization in New Canaan burglaries
An aggressive string of burglaries has police telling New Canaan homeowners to be vigilant to avoid victimization.
Most of the burglaries occurred in the southeast section of town. Police say thieves have struck 10 times in the past month, including five homes in the past week. Valuables, including weapons, were reported stolen from homes on Farm Road, White Oak Shade Road and Route 123.
Authorities urge residents to activate alarms, leave lights on, alert neighbors if they will be gone and report suspicious activity to 911. Homeowners say years ago, the threat of thieves in the quiet community never entered their minds.
