A special needs adult from Bridgeport will be going to camp this summer thanks to the generosity of some local businesses.

The family of Leah Barton, 30, says a change in her disability funding nearly derailed her plans to go to Camp Horizons even though the camp provides the highly specialized care she needs. The staff at the Disability Resource Network on Capital Avenue started looking for a solution when they realized Barton may miss out on what her family says is a lifelong tradition for her.

David Zarnowski, of Bridgeport's Aaron's Rent-to-Own, heard about the situation from staff members and donated $1,000 of the $2,700 fee.

A Greenwich nonprofit group, the Needs Clearing House, donated the remaining balance.

A spokesman for Aaron's says the company "is always eager to help causes related to people with special needs." Barton's family says they are deeply grateful.
