A Norwalk postal worker is training to compete in the Nutmeg State Games this summer as a sprinter for masters track and field.
Terrell Johnson, 47, has been a postal worker for the past 17 years. He says he got into running after bringing his four daughters to run in the Nutmeg State Games 10 years ago. He decided to try it himself and says he has been hooked since.
Since he got into running, Johnson has set a state record for his age group in the 400 and won dozens of medals. He now competes in five sprinting and jumping events.
Johnson says he hopes to inspire other older athletes and even encouraged his mother to compete with him in track a few years ago. This year's Nutmeg State Games will take place July 19 in New Britain.
