Annual tax-free week kicks off in Connecticut
Great news for shoppers as the back-to-school rush gets underway: it's tax-free week in Connecticut.
Sunday kicks off the annual "sales tax holiday." Purchases of clothing and footwear items that cost less than $300 will not be taxed.
According to the state's website, handbags, jewelry and other such accessories are not covered by the tax exemption and will still be taxed.
News 12 spoke to shoppers in Westport who said they were excited about the deals.
"I'm in college, so I want to get some things out of the way before I leave for school in a week," said Grace McDavid, a Shoe-Inn store employee.
Tax-free week runs through Saturday.
