Teen charged after alleged Instagram threat

A 15-year-old was charged Tuesday for posting a threatening comment against a classmate on Instagram, New Canaan police say.

On Christmas night, officers say a 14-year old girl, along with other people, was sent a post on Instagram with what police described as harmful language.

When the 14-year-old student responded to find out who the target of the threat was, police say the sender confirmed it was strictly for her.

Police could not tell News 12 the content of the photograph or the exact wording. They described it as an "act of spewing hatred."

Police are reminding anyone that uses Instagram or any social media platform to think of the repercussions before posting.

The New Canaan High School student who made that threat will go before a juvenile court judge on Jan. 6.
