Driver charged in hit-and-run that killed 90-year-old man
A 90-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Bridgeport Friday, and police have accused the alleged driver of being under the influence behind the wheel.
It happened at the intersection of Boston and Mill Hill Avenues shortly before 4 p.m. David Hadden, who had just celebrated his 90-year-old birthday, was struck by a speeding car as he attmped to cross the street.
A witness says another car had stopped to allow Hadden to cross, but a speeding car when around and fatally struck him. Flowers now mark the spot where Hadden died.
Police say the speeding car was driven by 29-year-old Ayanna Woodward, of Bridgeport, who was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, engaging police in pursuit and evading responsibility.
Police credited the quick arrest to good witnesses who were able to povide license information. Officers tracked down the vehicle near Exit 26 on I-95.
Neighbor Matthew Kane says Hadden was a good man, who was well-liked and respected by everybody.
