Sunday night marked the last performance ever of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus after more than 100 years in operation.
CEO Kenneth Feld decided to close down the circus earlier this year, after a big dip in ticket sales.
Some Bridgeport residents traveled to Long Island to witness the final act of the Greatest Show on Earth at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The historic milestone is especially significant to one Bridgeport resident in particular -- Tom Applegate, who is known as "The Singing Social Worker." He had even written a song in tribute to the occasion.
Applegate says the circus always had a magical allure for him and says Sunday marked the end of an era.
P.T. Barnum was a Bridgeport native who started a traveling circus in 1870.
