A Greenwich man faced a judge Monday after being charged with sending threatening text messages to his own mother in Milford.
Matthew Mannix, 29, told News 12 that he regrets what happened but is now hoping it may become a lesson for anyone who might be holding onto anger issues.
Milford police say Mannix sent threatening messages Saturday to his mother in an effort to get her to give him money.
Police say he threatened to harm her if she did not send the money by a certain time.
Mannix says he sent the text messages to his mother after what he calls years of a troubled relationship and abuse. He says a lack of sleep also contributed but adds that he takes full responsibility.
"I just started a small business and I was very proud of that, and I wanted to tell her about it but for some reason she ignored me. Like I said before, I didn't deal with it effectively. That resentment built up and I had a weak moment," says Mannix.
Mannix was ordered to report to family court for substance abuse and mental health services.
He faces several charges including criminal attempted larceny by extortion.

The Greenwich man says he will see a therapist.

The court issued a restraining order against him, but he says he hopes his mother will eventually attend therapy with him too.
