As Memorial Day weekend approaches, Connecticut state police say distracted driving is a big concern.
Connecticut Police Sgt. Robert Derry says year after year DWIs develop during holiday weekends when people are partaking in the partying atmosphere.
Derry says a lot of troopers are going to be on the roads, so the "move over" law is especially important this weekend. He says there have been too many state troopers and police officers that have been struck at accident scenes on the side of a highway, which is very concerning.
"We're going to have a very strong presence on the highways making our efforts to try to minimize that from happening and enforce those laws pretty strongly," Derry says.
He says police just want everyone to be safe and get to where they have to get safely and have a good time.
