A man from Derby facing deportation back to Guatemala will now get his day in court.
Luis Barrios was granted a two-year stay of removal but still faces deportation.
Barrios’ case is going back to court giving him the opportunity to try for asylum or seek permanent legal status in the U.S.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal has been helping Barrios in his immigration fight.
“A fair and effective result for Luis Barrios and his family will mean his staying in this country because he faces imminent and real danger of death if he is deported to Guatemala. I am hopeful he will be granted that status.”
Barrios has been in the U.S. since 1992 and has no criminal record.
There is no scheduled court date.
