The method residents get their Connecticut driver's license is about to change today.

Residents will no longer have to stand in long lines to get their license, but they will have to come to the DMV to file the paperwork and have their picture taken.

The new licenses will now be mailed.

The DMV says the change is all about upgrading security features to prevent identity theft.

According to Connecticut DMV Director of Public Relations Bill Seymour, the switch will eventually cut down on wait times since licenses won't be printed at the DMV.

Seymour says once the new program is established, people can skip a trip to the DMV by using an old photo and doing the paperwork online.
