The annual Congressional Baseball Game will be played today at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. as scheduled after Wednesday’s shooting that left a congressman and four others injured during practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
The summertime tradition dates back to 1909 and benefits several charities. Both teams will wear LSU gear in honor of Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise.
Scalise, as well as lobbyist Matt Mika, remain in critical condition this morning.
According to authorities, the gunman, James Hodgkinson, of Illinois, had a number of run-ins with police, including arrests for battery and drunk driving.
Police say he opened fire from off the field before police shot and killed him.
President Trump and the first lady visited the congressman Wednesday night in the hospital.
The president says Scalise will fully recover. In a tweet, he said Scalise is in tough shape but he's a real fighter.
