Bridgeport officials met at City Hall Tuesday to discuss the new parking meters and aggressive photo enforcement that have been blamed for a slowdown in downtown commerce.

Officials agreed to decrease parking fines from $40 to $20. They also lengthened the grace period for the meters. 

However, some residents have called the solution a Band-Aid and want the city to put a yearlong moratorium on the meters and rescind the contract with LAZ Parking, the parking operator.

City Council members will vote on the proposed changes during their meeting next week. 

The contracts committee will discuss the moratorium and the contract with LAZ Parking on July 11.
