Easton, Redding and Region 9 School District officials announced that they fired a janitor after learning of child porn allegations against him.
Derby police say they arrested David Habetz, 49, at his home on June 22.
School officials say Habetz worked at Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton for many years. Officials say there were never any incidents with him reported at the school.
Superintendent Tom McMorran sent out a letter to parents and staff Friday about Habetz. He says he can understand that parents would be upset.
"It makes your concerns even heightened when you think about how to go about ensuring that our kids are going through a day when they're safe and cared for and not at risk," McMorran says.
The district first became aware of the situation in March and fired Habetz a few days later, according to McMorran.
Habetz is due back in court Aug. 1.
