Police probe 2 separate shootings in Stamford

STAMFORD -

Stamford police are investigating two separate shootings that took place Saturday.

Police say Officer Chris Terrell was sent to Spruce Street around 9:30 p.m. after a call about suspicious men in the area running between cars.

When he arrived, he found a man in his 20s who had been shot several times.

Police say Terrell immediately put him in his vehicle and drove him to Stamford Hospital, something police say may have saved his life.

While police say it isn’t typical for officers to drive gunshot victims to the hospital, News 12 is told the officer decided to do so as a result of the severity of the victim’s injuries and the close proximity of the hospital.

The victim is currently in stable condition, News 12 is told.

Meanwhile, less than an hour after the incident, police responded to a call about shots fired on Seaside Avenue and found a home riddled with bullets.

Officials tell News 12 a woman and her daughter were home at the time of the apparent drive-by shooting but were not injured.

They say they believe the home was targeted.

However, investigators say they do not think it had anything to do with the shooting earlier in the night.

Police say there have been several shootings in the area over the past several weeks. They say they are reviewing video surveillance and following up with several witnesses to investigate potential motives.
