Building tenants say elevator troubles are leaving them stranded

Senior citizens who live in a Norwalk apartment complex say a broken elevator has left them stranded.
One resident, an 82-year-old woman with a pacemaker, spoke to News 12 as she climbed the three floors to her unit. Her son, Kevin Brown, says the elevator has been out of service for three weeks.
"Sometimes she's stuck in the house for a week because she doesn't feel like going up and down the stairs," Brown says.
"I feel like I'm in a cage," says Brown's mother, who did not want to give her name. "I'm just caged in."
The apartment complex on West Avenue is owned and managed by the Norwalk Housing Authority.
Brown says most of the tenants are elderly and some are disabled. "I have a coworker, her mother lives on the second floor and she's wheelchair-bound. She has doctor appointments and she can't get out," he says.
A note posted on the elevator says it's "temporarily out of service" and that it will be fixed in July, but it remains broken nearly a week into August.
News 12 contacted the Housing Authority for comment, but has not heard back.
News 12 also reached out to Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling to see if he can help the tenants, but has not yet received a response.
