Sen. Murphy walks more than 100 miles to talk to voters

Posted: Updated:
DANBURY -

Sen. Chris Murphy walked more than 100 miles across the state, from the Rhode Island border to Danbury, before a town hall-style picnic with voters.

"I know this is a little crazy, walking across the state," Murphy says. "I'm exhausted, but maybe people will pick up on the fact that I don't want to do the job without knowing exactly what Connecticut wants."

It's the second time the senator has walked across the state -- last year, he ended up in Greenwich. Along the route, some people didn't even recognize him as he sported a beard and hat. But along the way voters stopped him to talk about what's worrying them.

"It's interesting," Murphy says. "The issues that come up are not necessarily the ones that are on the headlines. It's the issues that never go away. People have been talking to me about schools. People have been talking to me about taxes. The biggest issue that I've heard on this walk is health care."

Murphy says the one other thing everyone wants to talk about is the recent violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the president's response.
