A nursery school in Greenwich is taking 'hands-on learning' to a whole new level this school year.

It's happening at the Temple Shalom on East Putnam Avenue.

From a water table and sawing station, to a wind tunnel, these are just some of the new devices to enhance learning at the school.

The Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School held a 'ribbon-sawing ceremony' earlier to debut its new STEAM, or Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics lab.

One lucky group of students got a first look at the new equipment Thursday.

The new lab will feature lessons in chemistry and physics, as well as also providing hands-on learning at work stations.

The $20,000 project was possible thanks to parent fundraising and anonymous donors.

Nursery school director David Cohen says while labs like these are often seen in elementary schools, he wants to instill this type of learning in their 2- and 3-year-olds, as well as preschoolers.

"They need opportunities and this really opens up the world," Cohen said.

The nursery school tells News 12 Connecticut it has also added a new gymnastic studio for the upcoming school year.
