Stratford mayoral candidates campaign ahead of Primary Day

Posted: Updated:
STRATFORD -

With just three days left before the primary election, the candidates vying to be the next mayor of Stratford spent Saturday campaigning.

Pender's Field is one of the many sites around Stratford where candidates were shaking hands in advance of Tuesday's primary elections for both Democrats and Republicans.

Democrat Joe Paul received an endorsement from Tom Penders, a retired basketball coach who is from Stratford and whose father is the namesake of the field.

Paul is promising a plan that involves forming a coalition of towns that would help save taxpayers money by purchasing town supplies in bulk.

"The taxes are hurting a lot of people in this town and it's getting to the point now that too many people are leaving the town because they cannot afford to stay any longer," Paul said.

Meanwhile Democratic candidate Stephanie Philips was at her headquarters helping to get out the vote. She says she wants to incentivize small businesses to move back into town and add jobs.

Another Democratic candidate, Lenny Petrucelli, says he wants to revitalize the Shakespeare Theater and get the Avco Army Engine Plant developed after many failed attempts.
