The Register Citizen newspaper reports that the father of a Torrington resident was one of the 59 people killed in the Las Vegas mass shooting.
Residents came together Tuesday to remember 55-year-old Kurt Von Tillow, from California. Von Tillow was reportedly at the Route 91 Harvest Festival with several family members, including his daughter Jessica and son-in-law CJ Giampaolo, both of Torrington.
Residents told News 12 they're shocked by the loss, saying this hit too close to home. They added that while they don't know Von Tillow personally, they feel for the Giampaolo family and are thinking of them during this difficult time.
"CJ Giampaolo and his family here in Torrington have a great following, and there's going to be a great support group," said Torrington resident Robert Schiby.
According to another report, Giampaolo and his wife were not wounded in the shooting.
St. Peter's Church says it will be mentioning Von Tillow's name during their prayer service on Sunday.
