Stamford police say quick thinking by one of their lieutenants led to a weapons arrest and possibly helped prevent a shooting.
Officers were on patrol overnight by the Elks Club on Mission Street. Police say the club has been the scene of shootings and fights, and has been the subject of numerous community complaints.
As police approached a large group in the parking lot, they say 30-year-old Lamar Taylor was seen walking away, putting something in a car, and then returning to the group. He was also wearing heavy winter gloves made of wool despite the mild temperatures.
Officers say they found a loaded revolver in the car with its hammer back, ready for immediate use.
Taylor, who was out on bond for another gun-related incident, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and interfering with police. He was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
