Supermarket Stew Leonard's hosted its 38th annual Turkey Brigade Thursday for families in need as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.
Organizers say 2,500 turkeys were donated to 100 charities at all Stew Leonard's locations. They say the charities included 32 churches, food pantries and civic programs in Fairfield County.
"It makes our family feel so happy to know we're helping out people who normally wouldn't be able to have Thanksgiving," says Stew Leonard's Vice President Jill Leonard Tavello.
The Turkey Brigade also took place at Stew Leonard's locations in Danbury and Newington, as well as its three stores in New York.
