Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire on a 21-year-old man in Bridgeport Sunday morning.

The gunfire broke out around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Spring and East Main streets, in what police are describing as a "targeted shooting."

A two-block area was cordoned off as investigators collected evidence and spoke with witnesses.

Police say a 21-year-old Bridgeport resident was leaning into a vehicle talking to a relative when the gunman approached him on foot. 

They say the gunman stopped and shot three times at the victim.

Police Chief AJ Perez says the victim was luckily struck only once in the leg.

He says the two men involved were not strangers.

"It looks like some kind of dispute between the victim and someone that he knows,” said Perez

Authorities say the victim was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Neighbor James Wheeler says he saw two cars leave the scene immediately after the shooting, although police tell News 12 that the gunman made away on foot south down East Main Street.

Police say they're in the process of examining surveillance video, which caught the encounter on camera.
