Stamford hosts immigration rally in nat’l day of action

Posted: Updated:
STAMFORD -

Stamford activists rallied outside the Judicial Courthouse Wednesday as part of a national day of action for immigration rights.

According to organizers, the rallies across the country were asking Congress to pass a clean Dream Act -- something that would give undocumented citizens a pathway to citizenship.

They're also asking Congress to protect the temporary protection status of some beneficiaries before the end of the year.

Eric Cruzlopez, a student, activist and beneficiary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, saw his protection expire on Sunday -- leaving him at risk of deportation. He says he's fighting for himself and the 11 million others just like him across the country.

DACA recipients like him say they have no memories of their native countries after being brought to the United States as children.

"I came here when I was 9 with my sister," says Katerin Sandoval, a high school student, hospital volunteer and undocumented immigrant. "Right now she's 14. I'm 19. I fight for this because it's not only for myself, but I fight for her too."
