A program in Bridgeport that houses women who have suffered from abuse, come out of prison or are homelessness has been saved, thanks to privately raised money.

The director of Refocus Outreach Ministries on Main Street tells News 12 she is grateful for the holiday miracle that will allow the 11 women who live in the home from becoming homeless.

The home is a place for woman to turn their lives around after facing prior homelessness and other problems.

"This is where I got my healing," one of the woman says. "This is where I got my growth and this is where it all started for me."

Officials say budget cuts were going to force the program to shut down immediately.

Councilwoman Anita Martinez first told News 12 about the emergency. From there News 12 contacted Joe Kaliko, of the Needs Clearing House, who worked with Mayor Joe Ganim to raise the money to keep the program alive.
