Emergency crews and residents across the region are preparing for incoming snow as well as strong winds that could potentially knock out power.
Eversource says it upgraded its system since the last storm, during which it received criticism for a disorganized response. But officials say high winds and extreme cold could still delay repairs.
In October, some of the homes on Crossland Place in Norwalk lost power for days. With temperatures plunging below freezing and several inches of snow in the forecast, more power outages could threaten lives.
So shops like Cannondale Generators in Wilton have been busy Wednesday as people take precautions before the storm. Experts say that people who already have generators set up should check them the day before the storm hits.
"With the extreme cold weather that we've had recently, generators that are stored outside can have a hard time starting," says Paul Bonomo, one of Cannondale's owners.
